With the South Florida sup upon us, it’s important to make sure you maintain your beaute-ful glow for the summer! Here are a few mistakes that can hinder your glow, in and out of the sun.

1. Not Wearing Sunscreen Everyday

We can’t say it enough, one of the biggest mistakes made over the summer is not applying sunscreen daily. The easiest remedy is to simply wear an SPF lotion or cream with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection every single day. Don’t forget, while UVB rays are strong in the summer, UVA rays stay the same all year long. Make it a daily habit to lather up whether the sun is in or out because, a sunburn is never in style!

2. The SPF in Your Makeup Isn’t Enough!

The amount of foundation you apply to your face, no matter what SPF, doesn’t offer the amount of full protection as an SPF lotion. Make sure to apply a face friendly SPF to your face before applying your makeup!

3. No Picking or Squeezing

We know when you have a blemish, it’s really hard to not pick, squeeze or even touch it. But, no amount of picking is going to make that problem spot on your face better. Instead, put an ice pack on the problem area to make the blemish smaller and, if it does get worse, see your esthetician or dermatologist for advanced care and skin recommendations.

6. Give Your Chest, Neck and Back SPF Love Too!

Flawless skin doesn’t end at your face. The sunscreen, moisturizer and cleanser you use on your face should be used on your neck, chest and back too! This is especially true in warmer months when shoulders are bare and backs are revealed!

7. Splash Cold Water on Your Face to Decrease Morning Eye Puffiness

Splashing cold water on your face first thing in the morning shrinks the blood vessels and decreases swelling under the eyes. For more serious under-eye circles, Juvederm and other fillers can help plump up the area and provide a more youthful appearance.

8. Workouts Don’t Have to Lead to Breakouts

Acne-prone exercisers should shower or wash their face immediately following a hard workout. If your gym has a steam room take advantage of it for a few minutes, this will open up pores and reduce your chance of break out.

9. Feed Your Pores Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights free-radical damage which makes it wonderful for anti-aging. But to really see the benefits of vitamin C on your skin, you have to apply it topically and not just rely on getting the nutrient in your diet. While over the counter products that contain vitamin C may not accomplish your goal of getting more beautiful skin, our Dermophisiologique Vitamin C can make a big difference in keeping the skin looking young and fresh.

10. You Don’t Need Lots of Products, You Just Need the Right Ones!

If you’re really committed to boosting the health and appearance of your skin, are are far more likely to get results from products recommended or prescribed by your Beauté esthetician. Investing in a few clinical-grade products rather than a vanity full of creams out of the bargain bin will truly reveal your youthful glow. Taking skincare seriously will help you develop healthy habits that could lead to a lifetime of beautiful skin!

1.Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is one of the most significant things you can do to improve complexion. Since the skin is one of the last organs to get hydrated when you drink water, it really shows when you haven’t been drinking enough H2O. How much water should you be drinking? Divide your body weight in half to reveal how many ounces you should be having daily.

2. Exfoliation, Exfoliation, Exfoliation

As you age, your skin cells turn over at a slower rate than when you were younger. For the best in exfoliation try our Silk Peel or microdermabrasion which promotes skin to turnover and essentially tricks it into thinking it’s younger!

3. Always Wear Sunscreen (but apply sparingly…)

Using sunscreen daily is one of the first changes you should make to improve your skin. When applying, less is more! Apply a shot-size glass amount to your whole body; use the size of a quarter on your face.

4. Shield Yourself From Sun Exposure…Even When You’re Inside

If you sit near a window at work, UVA rays can come through and take a toll on your skin. While inside, dab a powder sunscreen over your makeup every so often instead of adding goopy sprays over your foundation.

5. Sorry, but SPF Makeup Just Doesn’t Cut It!

The amount of SPF in makeup and the protection you get from sunscreen are not equal. If you’re prone to breakouts during summer months, use a tinted moisturizer, it’s a great option for people with sensitive skin or those who want lighter-weight coverage.

Bright fingers and toes for Spring look great…until they chip! Check out some of Beauté Therapies quick tips to keeping your manicures and pedicures fresh.

1.Use Cuticle Oil – We all know that cuticle oil protects against unsightly rough skin and painful hangnails but it can also prevent polish chipping. Apply on the cuticle and across polish twice a day.

2. Touch Up Your Topcoat - Did you know that your nail polish top coat wears down within 48 hours of leaving your manicurists chair? It’s your lacquer’s first line of defense before chipping making it crucial to re-apply it every other day. Don’t forget to seal the “free edge!” In manicurist speak this means the part of your nail that is clipped or filed. This can double the life of your manicure from days to a full week more.

3. Wear Gloves – Water is the number one cause of chipping polish! West gloves with prolonged water use.

4. Stay Away From heat - It takes 12 hours for your nail polish to fully harden, during this time avoid saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs. If you ash your hands with hot water, follow-up with a cold water rinse for 10-15 seconds to cure the polish.

5. Avoid Synthetic Fragrance – Perfumes found in hand lotions can cause nail lacquer to crack. Instead, look for natural options that use hydrating essential oils.

6. Don’t Pick! – If your polish starts to chip the best bet is to remove it and hurry back for your next manicure and pedicure.

7. BYOB – When in doubt, bring your own bottle of polish. This way, you know that no thinners have been added.

Pucker up and protect your lips! Did you know that your lips lack the same amount of melanin found in the rest of your skin? This means there is less natural protection against environmental elements. The super-thin and fragile skin on your lips require some extra TLC to ensure a healthy frame to your smile.

Our Beauté Pick: Dermophisiologique Optyma Perfect Lip SPF 30 – This light in texture, color-free lip balm will repair, smooth and protect your lips.

Your skin thrives off of what you eat. Make sure your diet is full of healthy foods including protein, fruits and vegetables. These foods provide the skin with the good omega fatty acids and antioxidants it needs to maintain a healthy glow and to help reverse sun damage. Don’t forget to drink eight glasses of water a day!

Do you ever have breakouts and don’t know why? Check out these tips to help keep your face fresh and clean!

  • Change your pillowcase weekly! The cotton from your pillowcase draws moisture from the skin leaving it dry causing sleep lines and wrinkles.
  • Wash your make-up brushes! Applying make-up from a brush filled with old make-up and bacteria can cause break outs.
  • Clean the face of your cell phone! Oil and debris collect on top of your phone and can be the cause of many break outs.
